Sangeet Nrityanjali

Sangeet Nrityanjali is our annual Indian classical music and dance event held in memory of Shri Mahadeo Degwekar, celebrating a legacy of artistic excellence and cultural devotion. Featuring renowned artists, the program is a soulful tribute that brings together the community to experience the richness of Indian heritage. Open to all, it fosters cultural appreciation, engagement, and intergenerational connection through the performing arts.

Workshop with SAAD Foundation

In January, we had the opportunity to collaborate with SAAD Foundation India, to celebrate a beautiful convergence of the universal languages of music and dance. MDF hosted an interactive workshop for underprivileged children at SAAD Foundation, providing them with a rare opportunity to explore the arts. Pallavi Degwekar, founder-president of MDF, was honored to connect with these exceptionally talented children, whose financial barriers have often limited access to such experiences.

Interactive Storytelling Session

Children were swept into a magical, interactive storytelling adventure at Plainsboro Public Library where adorable, fun-loving animal characters helped bring the vibrant world of Indian classical dance to life. With rhythmic music, colorful tales, and lively movement, kids not only listened to stories but became a part of them—exploring the grace and energy of dance through their own feet. The experience sparked joy, curiosity, and a deeper connection to movement, culture, and storytelling.

performances at Elderly care facilities/senior centers

Founder-President Pallavi Degwekar, along with her students, had the honor of sharing the art of Kathak through performances at an elderly care facility in India, at AristaCare – Cedar Oaks in celebration of Diwali, and at the South Brunswick Senior Center this January. Through the graceful rhythms, expressive storytelling, and intricate footwork of Indian classical dance, the performance brought warmth, joy, and festivity to the residents. It was a moving and memorable experience, as the smiles, kind words, and heartfelt engagement from the elderly audience highlighted the deep emotional connection that art can create—offering comfort, inspiration, and a shared sense of celebration across generations.

Musical Arts and Crafts workshop

Our joyful Musical Arts and Crafts event at East Brunswick Public Library invited children to explore Indian classical musical instruments through hands-on coloring pages and fun facts about instruments like the Tabla, Sitar, and Harmonium. In a guided workshop, participants crafted their own hand-held spin drums using paper, glue, beads, and more—decorating them with vibrant designs while learning about the cultures behind the instruments. The event beautifully combined creativity, music, and cultural appreciation, leaving everyone inspired, smiling, and proud of their colorful creations.

Rhythm on the square: a Dance-A-Thon

In September, we had the honor of launching a one-of-a-kind community celebration at the heart of Princeton in Hinds Plaza with “Rhythm on the Square: A Dance-a-thon.” People of all ages—from curious 18-month-olds to joyful seniors—and from diverse backgrounds came together, united by the power of music and movement. World rhythms filled the square as classical roots met modern beats, creating an inclusive, vibrant space where cultures collided and art knew no boundaries. Through shared movement and collective energy, the event became a heartfelt celebration of dance, culture, and connection.
